In addition to shopping your heart out, soak up the vibrant atmosphere as you shop and enjoy the various street performances. Don\u2019t miss out on a photo with the trademark of Ximending \u2013 the iconic rainbow street!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Food<\/span><\/a> is also a large part of the experience at Ximending. For starters, try <\/span>Ah Zong Mian Xian<\/b>. This is a bowl of rice vermicelli in a thick, starchy broth that contains bamboo shoots and pork intestine. Unlike some stores in Singapore that sometimes sell soggy youtiao, the ones from Yong He Soy Milk are freshly fried. So, they\u2019re warm and crispy. If you\u2019re not up for fried food, go for their <\/span>Dan Bing<\/b> (Egg Crepe), which is generously filled with ingredients and easy on the stomach.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The most famous rocks are the Queen\u2019s Head, Dragon\u2019s Head Rock and Fairy\u2019s Shoe.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Other than the geographical attractions, keep your eyes peeled as you\u2019ll likely also spot interesting fossils of sand dollars and sea urchins. Coupled with the foggy mist that periodically rolls in from the ocean, this town is enveloped by a mysterious yet cosy atmosphere.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The shops here are small and intimate, as the owners themselves mostly man them. Snacks are also plenty, and I\u2019d recommend trying <\/span>A-Zhu Peanut Ice Cream<\/b> (NT50, ~SGD2.20) or the <\/span>nougat <\/b>for some sweet treats as you peruse the items sold here. And because one can never have too much bubble tea, get a cup of <\/span>Brown Sugar Bubble Tea<\/b> from Xing Fu Tang before you leave to enjoy the warm boba and indulgent caramelised brown sugar atop fresh milk.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Originally a blacksmith shop during the gold mining period, this shop\u2019s exterior maintains the style and characteristics of that period. So, it makes for a great photospot for your feed! From the third floor of the teahouse, you\u2019ll be able to enjoy the refreshing ocean breeze and the views that overlook the ocean. Go for the <\/span>Beef Noodles<\/b> (NT300, ~SGD13) or the <\/span>Braised Platter<\/b> (NT150, ~SGD6.60) to share with the group. For those with a sweet tooth like I do, don\u2019t miss out on their handmade <\/span>Premium Almond Jelly<\/b> (NT90) for a post-meal treat.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you\u2019re understandably not too hungry after a day of non-stop snacking, I\u2019d suggest getting the <\/span>Signature Set<\/b> (NT105, ~SGD4.60) from Yu Wan Bo Zai to savour the <\/span>glass noodles<\/span><\/a> and dense fish balls that they’re famous for. Unlike some night markets that can get a little stuffy, I love how Dongdamen Night Market is located right next to the sea. So, it\u2019s cool and pleasant to stroll through. This hotel is also an ecotourism hub which houses a variety of bamboo species and animals.
