Before becoming a dad, Christmas was simple for Driech. But now, it\u2019s become one of his favourite times of year.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cCelebrating Christmas now is about preparing and cooking food! Hearing the family say, \u2018Wow, this is good stuff!\u2019 is a big win for me,\u201d he laughs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBefore becoming a dad, I barely cooked. Now, I try to learn new recipes regularly.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Aside from the family dinners, their tradition is travelling together. \u201cIt could be a staycation, an overseas trip, or anything in between. We enjoy experiencing the sights and sounds of the holiday season in various places and making great memories along the way.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Finding balance as a parent<\/span><\/h3>\n

When asked whether he\u2019s the \u201cfun\u201d parent or the \u201cpractical\u201d one, Driech says he\u2019s a mix of both. \u201cI try to find a balance. I let them try new things and have fun, but I also hold back when needed and say, \u2018Maybe next time.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

When it comes to unwrapping gifts, both kids show their excitement in the loudest way possible. \u201cThey don\u2019t squeal \u2013 they shout! You\u2019ll hear things like \u2018Woooh!\u2019 or \u2018Yaaayyy!!\u2019 echoing through the house,\u201d he laughs.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI usually go for the <\/span>science-y<\/span><\/i> stuff,\u201d says Driech. \u201cIt\u2019s the learning and spark of creativity that matter to me. One Christmas, I got them fossil excavation kits \u2013 you dig through a sand block to uncover a dinosaur toy. The best part was that you didn\u2019t know what kind of dinosaur you\u2019d get!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Gift planning in their family is collaborative. \u201cMy wife and I decide together. We ask the kids to make a list, but remind them it doesn\u2019t mean they\u2019ll get everything on it. It\u2019s more about letting them learn to make decisions\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
