Geylang Serai Bazaar is back this year with more than 800 stalls! It’s time for you and your friends to jostle with the crowds again to find the perfect street food – reasonably priced (for what you get), tasty and… yes, Instagrammable. Rising rent have caused prices to increase with more novelty foods for sale in recent years. This has led to complaints that the bazaar has lost its original purpose. While it’s true prices can be steep at times, we found many stall owners still innovating to create unique and affordable dishes for you.
If you’re wondering what to eat at the Geylang Serai bazaar, here are some recommendations worth braving the crowds for. After all, you deserve better for enduring the heat and elbowing your way through the crowd.
We’ve also tried our best to provide you information on the halal status of the stall. Still, it’s best to exercise discretion and check with the stall owners themselves if you’re not sure.
One of the most popular food at this year’s Geylang Serai bazaar, the Chicken Satay Meatballs in a Bucket ($9) consists of hand-rolled chicken meatballs drenched in fragrant satay peanut sauce. They are served with ketupat (rice dumplings) and fresh cucumbers in a large plastic bucket!
While you’re there, try out their Tulang Mee Kueh in a Bucket ($7) made by Chef Syed using a 20-year-old recipe. Then wash it all down with their gigantic Bubble Milk Tea in a Bucket ($6 for one bucket, $10 for two)!

Another hot favourite at the Geylang Serai bazaar this year, Beef Bro’s Halal Mentaiko Beef Cubes ($16) are made with premium 100% Australian rump steak cubes seared with a blowtorch. The juicy beef cubes are topped with homemade Mentaiko sauce for extra goodness!
You can also enjoy the flame-grilled beef cubes with barbecue sauce, garlic chilli or the highly popular sambal belachan sauce served on the side.

Need a break from the savoury stuff? Try out these fluffy and piping hot Poffertjes (Dutch Pancakes). The Ondeh Ondeh version ($6) comes highly recommended, with gula melaka syrup and shaved coconut for a truly flavourful experience.
You can also try out their other flavours as well like Smores, Red Velvet and Banana Split.

Chickaaaaboom! serves up freshly grilled chicken bites with your choice of sauce – Chilli Crab ($7), Garlic Butter, Sambal Works or Aligot ($7.50). If you’re a fan of Western chicken chops, this dish is sure to please!

The Tri Fries promises you variety with 3 generous servings of homemade sauces served with your fries. The sauces (Al’Arrabbiata, Signature Nacho Cheese and Boom Boom) are all made from scratch using natural vegetables and fruits without preservatives.
The best part? It only costs $5, making it much more affordable than other dishes in the Geylang Serai bazaar.

Loco Loco has been a mainstay at Geylang Serai Bazaar since 2015, and they have recently become Halal certified. This year, they created a new D24 durian flavour sauce to be drizzled on their signature Churros ($6). For durian lovers, the strong durian flavours here are a dream come true!

Alley’s Chocolate Ribbon Fries ($6) are made from fresh potatoes which are fried and covered with chocolate sauce. This one tastes similar to the popular Royce chocolate potato chips, so it’s definitely worth a try!

Markozar’s Stroopberry Banana Cheese ($6) is great as a dessert at the Geylang Serai Bazaar! Freshly fried banana fritters (goreng pisang) are topped off with shredded cheese and Stroopberry (berry chocolate) sauce.
Markozar also sells their famous Murtabak Manis ($6.50), which are crispy pancakes with generous amounts of Nutella sauce, matcha, cheese or other ingredients on top!

Cool yourself down with this tropical drink by Rainbow Works. The drink is made by blending real pineapple flesh into a smoothie and served in a pineapple husk. With liquid nitrogen added for a smoky effect, this Pineapple Juice ($7.90) satisfies both your thirst and Instagram needs.
Rainbow Works is one of the leaders of novelty foods in the Geylang Serai Bazaar. So if you’re looking for foods to build up your Instagram cred, you can get an Edible Helium Balloon ($8.90) or the Flaming Unicorn ($9.90) soft serve ice cream.

Besides the food we have recommended, don’t forget to check out pasar malam classics at this year’s Geylang Serai Bazaar! We can never say no to a good ol’ Ramly burger or prawn vadai.
Pro Tip: Before you go, make sure to get yourself ready for the heat with a portable fan from Shopee. Another essential you need as well is a handy umbrella for rainy nights.
