The Singaporean Cheatsheet To Maximising Your Annual Leave In 2021

The Ministry of Manpower has just announced that these will be the public holidays of 2021:

How then, do you maximise on these public holidays to get the best (*cough* longest) deal out of them? Well, we have three (smart) ways:

1. Use long weekends and save up on your Annual Leave

FYI, since there are some public holidays that land on Fridays and Mondays (New Year’s Day, Lunar New Year, Good Friday and National Day) this will essentially, give you a list of 4 long weekends in 2021:

New Year’s Day

1 Jan to 3 Jan (Fri to Sun)

Lunar New Year

12 Feb to 14 Feb (Fri to Sun)

Good Friday

2 Apr to 4 Apr (Fri to Sun)

National Day

7 Aug to 9 Aug (Sat to Mon)

You might want to start planning your 2021 and take these long weekends to get that short 3D2N staycation break, without spending any precious annual leave. Psst, check out these 13 best hotel staycations in Singapore to plan your next staycation on a budget!

2. Utilise the Public Holidays and spend your Annual Leave wisely

Honestly, that ain’t bad, but why settle for 4 long weekends when you can get 5 with this cheat sheet?

New Year’s Day

By taking one day of leave on 31 Dec (Thurs), you’ll get to enjoy a four-day long holiday from 31 Dec to 1 Jan (Thurs to Sun)

Lunar New Year

By taking one day of leave on 11 Feb (Thurs), you’ll get to enjoy a four-day long holiday from 11 to 14 Feb (Sat to Wed)

Good Friday

By taking two days of leave on 5 and 6 Apr (Mon and Tue), you’ll get to enjoy a five-day long holiday from 2 to 6 Apr (Fri to Tue)

Hari Raya Haji

By taking two days of leave on 16 and 19 Jul (Fri and Mon), you’ll get to enjoy a five-day long break from 16 to 20 Jul (Fri to Tues)

National Day

By taking two days of leave on 5 and 6 Aug (Thurs and Fri), you’ll get to enjoy a five-day holiday from either 5 to 9 Aug (Thurs to Mon)

3. Plan early and chope these long holiday periods

And if you want a really long break, you’d want to note down the holiday dates for Christmas 2021 and New Year 2022 and hurry chope it before anyone else does!

Post-Christmas and New Year’s Eve

By taking five days of leave from 27 to 31 Dec (Mon to Fri), you’ll get to enjoy a full 9-day holiday from 25 Dec to 2 Jan! This one’s a long one so if you manage to chope it, you’re a lucky one!

Share with your friends to find out how to plan for that trip, be it a long weekend excursion or that self-explorative journey. Just make sure to chope the dates before they do!
