This holiday season, Wild Rice is bringing a beloved fairy tale to the stage with a cheeky Singaporean twist. The Emperor’s New Clothes is a grand musical pantomime that reimagines the classic tale of a vain Emperor obsessed with fashion – in celebration of Wild Rice’s 25th anniversary. In this uproarious retelling, the pompous Emperor (celebrating the 60th year of his reign) demands the most extravagant National Dress Parade ever, so two clever “tailors” conspire to teach him a lesson in humility. They present him with an eye-popping “invisible” outfit, claiming only the smartest people can see it – and chaos ensues as no one dares tell His Majesty the truth! Expect lavish sets, catchy songs, hilarious local references and plenty of audience participation, as is tradition with Wild Rice’s year-end pantos. It’s laugh-out-loud fun for the whole family, with a heartwarming moral to boot.

Admission fee: From $45
Address: Wild Rice Theatre @ Funan, 107 North Bridge Road, S(179105)

The Museum of U & Me is a quirky pop-up exhibition assembled from 3 repurposed shipping containers on the lawn of the National Museum of Singapore. Entry is completely free, and inside you’ll find a charming collection of artifacts donated by people from all walks of life. Each object tells a story of Singapore’s past or present, weaving a collective tapestry of our local culture. Peek at nostalgia-inducing items like a 1970s family television set, vintage tiffin carriers in rainbow hues, and even the classic “Singapore Girl” perfume that was all the rage in the 1980s. One highlight is a 3D-printed reproduction of the Singapore Stone (a fragment of an ancient slab with mysterious inscriptions) – now you can get up close without braving a cave!. Interactive elements add to the fun: try the digital photo-matching game, where you identify exhibition objects hidden within old photos to win a collectible card as a souvenir.
