The best mosquito killers in Singapore (2025)

1. Shieldtox Citronella All Insect Killer PowerGard Spray

Overall rating: 4.7/5

(Credit: RB Home Official Store)

One of my colleagues absolutely swears by bug spray when it comes to keeping mosquitoes away. He recommended the Shieldtox All Insect Killer NaturGard Spray, which he says works like a charm on all sorts of insects – including mosquitoes. What really sold him was how fast it kicks in and the fact that it keeps working for up to a week, so his home stays mozzie-free without needing constant reapplication.

My colleague’s tried and tested method is to spray Shieldtox around the room while you’re not using it to kill any mosquitoes present inside. Then let the spray dissipate before you enter the room again. Since he started doing this, he hasn’t had any issues with mosquitoes or other creepy crawlies. Bonus: It’s generally safe for mammals, so he doesn’t have to worry about using it around his kids or pets!

Criteria Our rating Our take
Effectivity 5
  • Effective in eliminating mosquitoes for up to 1 week
  • Near-instant killing action when sprayed directly on insects.
Ease of Setup and Usage 5
  • Easy to use with no setup, batteries, or electric outlets required.
Non-toxic Ingredients 4
  • Pleasant citronella scent that tells you when the pesticide is still lingering in the room.
  • Pesticides in the active ingredients can be concerning, especially to parents, so we recommend not using the bug spray while

2. PowerPac Mosquito Killer Trap

Overall rating: 4.3/5

(Credit: PowerPac Official Store)

If you’re not a fan of bug sprays or are worried about the ingredients, you’re not alone. Another one of my colleagues prefers a completely hands-off approach with the PowerPac Mosquito Killer Trap, which she claims to be the best mosquito light trap as she can just set it up and forget about it, all while keeping mozzies out of her condo unit. And honestly, she finds it oddly satisfying to hear that little zap every time it catches one!

The PowerPac Mosquito Killer Trap is super versatile too, with a sturdy hook so you can hang it on a wall, suspend it from the ceiling, or just let it stand on its own. It works by using UV tubes to attract mosquitoes and zaps them on the spot. Besides, what makes this device one of the best mosquito killers in Singapore is its ease of clean-up: simply twist the tray and toss out those mozzies!

Criteria Our rating Our take
Effectivity 4
  • Attracts and kills mosquitoes on contact
  • The UV mosquito lamp works best at night, as mosquitoes seek out the heat radiating from the lamp.
Ease of Setup and Usage 5
  • Easy to set up – just plug it in and let it zap those bugs away!
Non-toxic Ingredients 4
  • No pesticides or chemicals here, so it’s safe to use around children and pets.
  • Make sure to keep the mosquito light trap away from children and pets though, as they may get injured by the UV lamp.

3. Homlly 2-in-1 Electric Mosquito Lamp and Swatter

Overall rating: 4.3/5

(Credit: Homlly Official Store)

I get bitten by mosquitoes all the time. Even if there’s a hundred other people in the room, mosquitoes naturally flock to me like a moth to a lamp. So it’s no surprise that I’m always on the lookout for ways to get rid of these annoying bugs! The best mosquito killer, in my opinion, is this 2-in-1 Electric Mosquito Lamp and Swatter as I can easily swat multiple mosquitoes at once, yet use it as a UV lamp when I need to.

What I love is how versatile it is. When I spot a mozzie buzzing around, I switch it to racket mode and take it out myself (very satisfying, by the way). But most of the time, I just leave it in lamp mode and let the UV light lure them in while I get on with my day. While it doesn’t fully eliminate mozzies, the electric bug swatter does catch a fair amount of pests. It gets the job done without much fuss too!

Criteria Our rating Our take
Effectivity 4
  • Effective when used against flying insects, but not as effective as UV mosquito lamps when placed on the wall or base.
Ease of Setup and Usage 4
  • Versatile usage and easy setup as you can just hang it on the wall or place it on its base to use as a mosquito light trap!
  • Batteries need charging every now and then.
Non-toxic Ingredients 5
  • Safe to use around children and pets, but keep the electric bug swatter away from them as it can cause minor injuries.

4. Mozquit Electric Mosquito Killer Lamp Trap

Overall rating: 4/5

(Credit: Directfame)

I came across DIY Pest King not too long ago. It’s a local brand that focuses on helping Singaporean households stay pest-free! Reviews sound promising, with many users saying that the Mozquit Electric Mosquito Trap is effective in eliminating mosquitoes from their homes. So of course, I had to give it a try!

It’s compact and easy to move around, so I placed it near the window or in the corner of the room I’m staying in. The UVA light draws in flying insects, and once they get close, the metal grids zap them. It’s not flashy, but it does the job quietly in the background, and I like that it’s a fuss-free way to cut down on mozzies at home. I did notice that mosquitoes and flies lessened around the house, but it’s definitely more effective in darker, enclosed spaces where the light stands out.

Criteria Our rating Our take
Effectivity 4
  • Keeps mozzies at bay for around 5 days, and it’s definitely more effective in dark areas.
Ease of Setup and Usage 4
  • Easy to set up with its plug and play feature.
Non-toxic Ingredients 4
  • Safe to use around children and pets as the electric mosquito trap has plastic grates to keep curious hands (and paws) away from the bug zapper.
  • However, this mosquito killer features a high-voltage zapper.

5. Baygon Mosquito Coil

Overall rating: 4/5

(Credit: Cold Storage Official Store)

I can still smell this from my childhood, as this was my parents’ preferred mosquito repellent. While most mosquito coils repel insects with strong-smelling scents like citronella, the Baygon Mosquito Coil contains transfluthrin, an insecticide that is said to be effective in killing mosquitoes, flies, and other insects. These coils are burned throughout the night to give you a peaceful sleep without worrying about bites or buzzing.

However, mosquito coils are best used in well-ventilated areas as the active ingredients may cause some issues when overexposed. You also have to burn the mosquito coil for it to be effective, which I personally don’t prefer. Still, the coils are highly effective, and generally pose minimal hazards when used properly!

Criteria Our rating Our take
Effectivity 5
  • Highly effective in killing and repelling mosquitoes for up to 8 weeks.
Ease of Setup and Usage 4
  • Easy to set up and use
  • However, some people might not feel comfortable having a mosquito coil burning throughout the night as they sleep.
Non-toxic Ingredients 3
  • Contains transfluthrin, which can cause respiratory issues when overexposed.
  • Keep mosquito coils away from children and pets.
  • Mosquito coils may affect marine life, so it is not recommended for use if you have aquatic animals in your home.

6. Electronic Indoor Mosquito Killer Lamp

Overall rating: 4.2/5

(Credit: Trade 21 Official Store)

Who can resist the adorable Electronic Indoor Mosquito Killer Lamp? Certainly not us! This is one of the best mosquito killers in Singapore that doubles up as decor for your work desk too! It uses an omnidirectional LED light to lure mosquitoes into its chamber, where it kills them using a strong suction force produced by its high-speed fan. Switch it on for some time before you go to sleep and you won’t have to worry about mosquito bites.

What we like most about this mosquito light trap is its suction power. Most mosquitoes aren’t attracted to light the same way other insects do, and are usually more attracted to Co2 or the heat emitting from UV light. However, this indoor mosquito killer features a light suction that ensures flying insects get trapped right in its sticky chamber. Plus, it doesn’t have a zapper, so it’s completely safe for kids and pets!

Criteria Our rating Our take
Effectivity 3.5
  • Traps mosquitoes instead of killing them on contact
  • Effective in suctioning flying pests from around the device.
Ease of Setup and Usage 4
  • Minimal set up and maintenance, but its sticky glue trap will need to be replaced every few weeks.
Non-toxic Ingredients 5
  • Completely safe for kids and pets as there is no high-voltage bug zapper.

7. Mosquito Dunks (Bti Briquets) Non-Toxic Mosquito Insecticide

Overall rating: 4.2/5

(Credit: Chin Ling Nursery)

I gave these Mosquito Dunks a try after stumbling across a video that explained how they work, and I can honestly say they work fairly well. The idea is to fill a container with standing water, and wait until mosquitoes lay their eggs. It may sound counterintuitive at first, but these dunks are actually larvicides, so they kill mosquito larvae before they even turn into full-grown mozzies.

It’s one of the best mosquito killers in Singapore as we have a good variety of beneficial insects like butterflies and spiders. These dunks are safe for other insects, so you don’t need to worry about affecting beneficial insects in your garden or that friendly spider in your home! I’ve tossed a few into places like clogged drains and water trays, and I definitely noticed fewer mosquitoes around the house. They’re non-toxic too, but still, it’s not something you want your pets (or kids) drinking from!

Criteria Our rating Our take
Effectivity 4
  • Eliminates mosquito larvae before they become adults.
  • Can be left in standing water to keep mosquitoes at bay for long.
  • However, mosquito dunks don’t eliminate adult mosquitoes.
Ease of Setup and Usage 3.5
  • As easy as just tossing the disc into water, and letting it eliminate mosquito larvae for you.
  • However, you will need to have a controlled set up first to get rid of mosquitoes.
Non-toxic Ingredients 5
  • Safe and non-toxic to kids, pets, and beneficial insects.

8. Mozquit Mosquito Control Spray

Overall rating: 4.3/5

(Credit: Mozquit)

Here’s another mosquito killer that works on water, and even kills all stages of a mosquito’s life cycle! The Mozquit Mosquito Spray uses an odourless formula that creates a thin layer of film on top of standing water to suffocate mosquito larvae and trap adult mosquitoes from emerging from their pupae. It’s one of the best mosquito killers in Singapore for homes that have a lot of standing water around.

The thin film supposedly prevents female adults from laying eggs on the water surface, disrupting the cycle. When used, a colleague mentioned they noticed mosquitoes floating in the water, trapped by the film. This spray even worked on larger vats of standing water, spreading a thin film that covers the entire surface with just a few spritzes!

Criteria Our rating Our take
Effectivity 5
  • Disrupts the mosquito life cycle, and eliminates mosquitoes at all stages.
Ease of Setup and Usage 4.5
  • Easy to spray on standing water, without the need to set up or drain anything.
  • Requires re-application every few days.
Non-toxic Ingredients 3.5
  • While Mozquit Mosquito Spray is non-toxic to children and pets, it may trap beneficial insects and pose a hazard to aquatic life.

9. Gravitrap Mosquito Trap

Overall rating: 4.5/5

(Credit: Jungle Pest)

How about a mosquito trap that needs no harmful chemicals, pesticides or bug zappers? My friend (and fellow mosquito magnet) insists that the Gravitrap is the best mosquito killer in Singapore as it’s effective in disrupting the mosquito life cycle. Her approach is to nip the problem in the bud, eliminating mosquitoes from the source.

How does it work? Instead of using a pesticide or high-voltage electricity to kill mosquitoes, the Gravitrap uses a specialised, non-toxic formula that attracts mosquitoes to lay their eggs, trapping them in the sticky glue. Any larvae that emerge from the eggs get trapped too, stopping the mosquito cycle. It’s also the best mosquito killer for households with children and pets as you won’t have to worry about the little tots getting into insecticide or zappers!

Criteria Our rating Our take
Effectivity 5
  • Effective in preventing mosquitoes and their larvae from entering your home.
  • Designed by NEA to get rid of mosquitoes from the source.
Ease of Setup and Usage 3.5
  • Requires a large area to place the Gravitrap, and it requires moderate setup.
Non-toxic Ingredients 5
  • No toxic chemicals, insecticides, or hazardous zappers here!

With so many mosquito killers in the market, how can you find the best one for your home? It’s mostly up to preference – would you prefer a mosquito killer that works in the background, or one that requires a bit more effort to instantly kill those pesky mozzies? Then, there are also solutions that get rid of mosquitoes from the source, eliminating both adults and larvae.

Here are the types of mosquito killers you can consider:

Type of mosquito killer Pros Cons Best for
Electric swatter Safe, easy to use, immediate Requires manual effort Dealing with individual flying insects one at a time
UV mosquito killer lamp Safe and effortless. Includes portable options. Takes time for mosquitoes to be trapped and killed Killing large amounts of mosquitoes over a period of time
Mosquito killer spray Fast and immediate Uses toxic chemicals and requires you to leave the room for about 15 – 30 minutes Getting rid of insects immediately and effectively
  • Electric swatters

Lend some help from electric swatters, one of the best types of mosquito killers in Singapore. They are equipped with a layered mesh which produces a high efficiency electric shock to kill mosquitoes as soon as they come into contact when you swing it across. If you’re looking for an easy method on how to get rid of or kill mosquitoes, this is a simple one that you can use.

  • UV mosquito lamps

While it’s debatable whether mosquitoes are attracted to UV light, they are attracted to the heat emitted by UV mosquito killer lamps. These mosquito killers are equipped with metal grids which electrocute the insects as soon as they fly into the lamp. This is a safe method which does not involve toxic chemicals too!

  • Mosquito killer sprays

If you want a quick and effective way on how to get rid of mosquitoes, go for mosquito killer sprays. They use chemicals such as prallethrin and pyrethroid to kill them. However, do use them with caution. After spraying them to treat an area, close all doors and windows and stay away from that room for at least 30 minutes or the duration that the product recommends.
