If you haven’t visited before, this majestic attraction is a major landmark of KL that simply can’t be missed. Standing at a towering 1483 feet, the pair of towers holds the title of the world’s tallest twin skyscrapers. If you’re a fan of the 1999 heist film Entrapment, you might have recognised this magnificent structure in the background, so head on over to snap a picture with it! A tip is to arrive right as it opens at 9am, as it can get crowded later on. However, I’d say that the beautiful pictures around sunset hours are worth the squeeze.

Formerly known as the Padang, this is the historical spot where Malaya first declared its independence back in 1957. Today, it’s known as the venue of the annual Merdeka Parade and other political events. The intricate historical architecture and lush grass lawn remind me of the National Gallery in Singapore, so it’s safe to say that this tourist attraction is photo-worthy. The vibe is chill and relaxing, so it’s great for a family picnic. Additionally, don’t miss out on the light show to see the buildings beautifully illuminated, which takes place daily at 9pm. Other than that, Merdeka Square is surrounded by colonial-era buildings and other cultural landmarks that are worth checking out as well.

This cave complex was first named Kapal Tanggang after the folklore that reminds us of the importance of filial piety and gratitude. As a key religious site in KL, many visitors plan a visit here to seek blessings and visit the golden statue of Hanuman. Before you head up, spend some time checking out the art gallery cave and the intricate cave villa complex. Don’t miss out on visiting the iconic rainbow-coloured staircase that leads up to the cave temple as well. As you’ll be walking a fair bit, dress comfortably and wear a pair of sports shoes to make your experience more enjoyable.

5. KLCC Park
After you visit the Petronas Twin Towers, pay KLCC Park a visit for a rejuvenating experience with friends or family. As a lush sanctuary that spans a whopping 50 acres, there’s plenty of room for the kiddos to run about as you chill in the shade. This park also offers a wide range of amenities, such as a children’s playground and a wading pool, that are sure to keep the young ones entertained.
Health enthusiasts or those trying to burn off some calories before feasting can also go on a jog along the designated jogging track while enjoying the surrounding greenery. My favourite part of KLCC Park has to be the elevated bridge for the magnificent view, and the 280m-tall water fountain. If you need a break from all the walking, visit the waterfall section to chill in the shade and enjoy the therapeutic sound of water as it trickles down. It’s going to be warm and humid, so bring a cap and a portable fan to shield yourself from the heat.

7. KL Bird Park
Home to both local and foreign birds, this bird sanctuary surprisingly houses almost 200 different species. If you’re like me, you’re probably under the impression that all bird parks are the same, so this one is worth a skip. I’d like to stop you there – KL Bird Park is the largest free-flight walk-in aviary in the world, so that means that you’ll be able to observe how the natural rainforest habitats of these birds are replicated here.
Unlike in Singapore, you’ll see the African Violet Turaco and the Channel-billed Toucan, which both boast beautiful plumage and vibrant feathers. Even though this bird park is just a quick drive from the city centre of KL, make sure to plan your time well. After all, you won’t want to miss the spectacular bird show that’s held at 12.30pm and 3.30pm daily, as it’s one of the most highly anticipated KL attractions!

8. KL Forest Eco Park
As one of the last untouched tropical rainforests left in the region, KL Forest Eco Park is one of the more popular destinations for those looking to reconnect with nature. That’s not to mention how it’s conveniently located in the city centre. If you’re visiting, you can expect a variety of activities catered to visitors of all demographics, including family picnics. Photography enthusiasts will enjoy the Canopy Walk across a steel aerial bridge that’s suspended 21 metres above ground, creating a unique vantage point that’s great for photos.
Hikers will also be delighted by the range of hiking trails. They vary in difficulty, so they’re great for all! Beginners can go for the Merbau trail, which is easier and experienced hikers can go for the Jelutong trail for steeper inclines and rugged terrains. To get your blood pumping, this is one of the best things to do in KL!

It’s a great time to visit Chinatown if you haven’t been there in a while, as a section of Chinatown underwent much-needed restoration efforts just last year. Check out the Petaling Street Market for souvenirs and quality replicas of designer bags and shoes at a fraction of their original prices.
After shopping, you’re bound to be hungry. Grab a bite from one of the street-food vendors or head to a nearby eatery to fuel up on fragrant Nasi Lemak and Goreng Pisang, or other types of culinary delights. If you’re planning on visiting Kwai Chai Hong, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the interactive murals. They’re embedded with QR codes for you to scan to learn more about the olden-day ways of residents, which I found interesting.

10. Brickfields
Another one of the top things to do in KL includes a trip to Brickfields, KL’s version of Little India. Regardless of what you’re looking for, chances are that you’ll find it here. The stores here sell pretty much everything from Indian clothing to jewellery and other goods, and the street is decorated with brightly-coloured decorations. You also can’t miss out on any of the authentic Indian Food like Banana Leaf Rice from Saravanaa Bhavan Restaurant!
That said, the Thean Hou Temple is a popular Taoist attraction in this area that many visit to seek blessings from the revered deity. You’ll also be able to enjoy the scenic views atop Robson Hill. As one of the pioneer settlements in KL, you’ll be amazed at the number and variety of colonial structures found scattered around this area.

11. Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia
If you have a keen eye for art, I’d recommend a visit to the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia to view their numerous artefacts and extensive collection of Islamic art books. As the largest museum of Islamic Art in Southeast Asia, this award-winning museum is home to 12 permanent galleries that each have their unique highlights. So, you’ll be able to view pieces across various media, including textile, woodwork and ceramics. Unlike other museums that prioritise works from a select region, the Islamic Arts Museum prides itself on its attempts to curate a collection that’s truly representative of Islamic culture. For those looking for unique things to do in KL, this museum is the perfect place to spend the afternoon.

Once you’ve shopped till you’ve dropped, treat yourself to a massage by a skilful masseuse at Manjakaki to relieve the tension in your muscles.
If you’re under the impression (like I once was) that Central Market is targeted at older age groups, think again! This area regularly hosts events that sell curated vintage clothing and artisan accessories, so there’s a fair bit of youthful energy here too. For comparison, these events remind me of those held at Haji Lane. If that’s what you enjoy, you’ll find shopping at Central Market one of the most satisfying things to do in KL, especially if you’re able to get your hands on some good loot!

For the sheer variety of street food that’s available, foodies are guaranteed to enjoy Jalan Alor. Although you may face long queues, my top pick has to be the Signature Roast Chicken Wings from Wong Ah Warh that have been carefully marinated and roasted to perfection for a juicy, tender finish. I’ve heard that the Ngau Kee Beef Noodles are also great for a hearty meal! But no meal is complete without dessert. So, top it all off with a durian dessert and leave satisfied. Take it from me – if you’re a foodie, this is one of the must-visit attractions in KL.

If you’re in KL with a large group of friends, visit Breakout for an exhilarating escape room experience, or pop by Manekineko Karaoke to sing your hearts out. After, head to the ground floor to refuel with the many food and beverage options.

This racetrack is located on the roof of LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre, our favourite Japanese lifestyle shopping mall. Here, you’ll be able to zip down the racetrack in your e-karts while admiring cityscape views, including those of the stunning Merdeka 118 Tower in the distance. Safety is taken very seriously here, so children need to be at least 7 years of age to race on their own. Otherwise, you can opt for the tag-along option to have your little one ride tandem with you.
