Top 13 Thai Horror Movies Singaporeans Must Watch This Halloween

Halloween is fast-approaching, and that means new horror movie releases! If you’re in for a scare, skip the usual Hollywood movies and dive straight into these 11 Thai horror movies that are SO spooky that they had us looking over our shoulders and jumping at the slightest sound for days:  

1. Shutter

[embed][/embed] This notoriously creepy movie is about a female ghost, Natre, haunting her ex-boyfriend, Tun. The story starts off with Tun and his current girlfriend, Jane, running over a mysterious young woman. Later on, it is revealed that this woman was Natre and her spirit still lingers in the human world because of something more horrible than the hit-and-run incident. We assure you after you watch this movie, you’ll never look at shoulder aches or photographs in the same way, ever again.   Release: 2004  

2. Coming Soon

This movie follows the story of a young projectionist, Chen, who decides to illegally record a newly released horror movie to earn some side cash. But things don’t go too well when his boss mysteriously disappears and when he finds out that the filmmakers of the movie he was trying to record experienced eerie bumps along the way too.   Release: 2008  

3. Alone

[embed][/embed] Tricia Marrapodi once said that being a twin is like being born with a best friend. But this was certainly not the case for the pair of twins in this movie, Pim and Ploy, who were conjoined at the stomach from birth. The story starts off sweet and nice with both twins promising to stay together until they die but, obviously fate has it another way for them. While they were staying in the hospital, the twins meet a boy named Wee and both fall for him. However, Wee only had eyes for the sweet Pim. Ploy who was always harsh got jealous of Pim, causing the twins to get into a huge fight. They then decided to undergo surgery, which was, unfortunately, only partially successful, with Pim being the sole survivor. After the surgery, Pim starts experiencing a series of hauntings of Ploy. Only, is she really Pim? Or is she Ploy?   Release: 2007  

4. 4bia

[embed][/embed] If one horror movie is not enough to satisfy the inner-horror movie fan in you, we are you to try watching 4bia – a horror movie that consists of four short scary movies that are creepily related. The first part tells the story of a young woman who communicates with the outside world only via text message. But here’s the twist – she seems to be also communicating with otherworldly creatures. The second part tells the story of a young boy who witnesses a group of friends taking drugs and is beaten to death. This young boy’s spirit then lingers around haunting the group of perpetrators. The third part narrates how a group of four friends drowns but none of them except for one, accepts their death. And finally, the fourth part is about a flight attendant that has to fly on board an aeroplane with only one other person – a corpse.   Release: 2008  

5. Body #19

[embed][/embed] This story tells the story of a boy, Chon, who has recurring vivid nightmares about a girl being cruelly murdered and dismembered and put back together. It is slowly revealed that the people who knew the woman always end up dead. Chon then decides to go on a mission to find out more about his nightmares, just that he got more than he bargained for.   Release: 2007  

6. Ladda Land

[embed][/embed] Slightly similar to Hollywood’s Paranormal Activity sans the weird and vomit-inducing cinematography, Ladda Land tells the story of a family who relocates to Ladda Land from Bangkok in hopes of a better life. Obviously, the family got more than what they asked for, experiencing eerie haunting by the families who used to live there. But, has unfortunately passed on due to marital discord. Do prepare some tissues though as this movie ends off with a heart-wrenching clip.   Release: 2011  

7. Art of the Devil 2

[embed][/embed] Art of the Devil 2 follows a group of high school friends who reunite after one of their fathers committed suicide. They decide to spend the night at their friend’s place, but when darkness falls, strange things begin to happen to them one by one. The friends start to notice that these mysterious things seem to be as if someone is using the black magic on them in revenge for an act this group of friends committed together back at high school.   Release: 2005  

8. Train of the Dead

[embed][/embed] Just a word of caution, you might have issues taking the MRT after watching this movie that’s about five teenagers who find an empty train and decides to wait out a search by the authorities after they committed robbery. However, little do they know that there is something more sinister in store for them because the train that they’re hiding in is actually inhabited by ghosts on their way to their final judgement. And these ghosts are not just going to sit by because they’re planning to take these five friends with them.   Release: 2007  

9. 3 A.M.

[embed][/embed] This movie is divided into three short, but extremely creepy supernatural incidents that seem to occur around 3 a.m. The first part is about a pair of sisters who owns a wig shop but gets into trouble with a spirit whose hair was illegally sold to them. The second part is about a funeral home employee who falls in love with a female corpse. Finally, the last part is about two employees whose prank went scarily and horribly wrong.   Release: 2012  

10. The Promise

[embed][/embed] The Promise tells a story of two girls, Boum and Ib, who decides to commit suicide together after their families go bankrupt. However, only Ib keeps this promise after Bourm gets scared before jumping off.  Years later, Bourm decides to revisit the building and her vengeful ghost returns to haunt Boum and her 15-year-old daughter, Bell.   Release: 2017  

11. Pee Mak

[embed][/embed] Classified as a comedy-horror-romance film, Pee Mak is something you can watch if you’re looking for something that is more lighthearted. The story follows a soldier, Mak, who makes friends with four friends, during the war. After the war ends, Mak invites his four friends to his home, and even introduces them to his beautiful wife and baby boy. However, there is a rumour going around that Mak’s wife died while giving birth to her stillborn baby. The four friends try to help and warn Mak but comedic and funny situations ensue. In the end, it is ultimately up to Mak to choose love or reality.   Release: 2013  

12. Reside


This film reunites the leads from the iconic classic ‘Shutter’ for the first time! Reside starts off in the setting of any typical horror movie: On a dark, stormy night at an isolated mansion, 6 cultists gathered, led by “The mother”. They practice a mysterious ritual using an unknown body but it goes horribly wrong. Unbeknownst to them, they summon a wandering spirit to come into their presence. The terrifying spirit possesses members of the group who were trapped in the house by the raging storm. No one knows who it is going to come for next or when.

13. Krasue: Inhuman Kiss


An innocent girl in a far-away village, “Sai” found herself inheriting the curse of “Krasue”, a female flesh-eating demon in Southeast Asian folklore. In the depths of the night, her head would detach from her body and hunt for flesh and blood. Villagers are terrified by the deaths of their livestock and that is when the Krasue hunt began. In this version, Krasue is a sensitive monster, whose fate is explained through the interplay of love and friendship.
