A steady hand, an unflinching gaze and a deep breath: all of these are necessary to securing the coveted $200 NS marksmanship award! Unfortunately, some of us are horribly inaccurate when aiming with our SAR-21s. To help you develop a steady aim, here are some of the best shooting games to practise your NS marksman skills and help you go from bobo to pro.
Before we continue with our selected games, you might want to take note of the below:
- These shooting games contain realistic human targets, so you don’t have to deal with teleporting enemies like in Overwatch or zombies hordes in Left 4 Dead.
- The games listed here don’t have aim assist so Call Of Duty doesn’t qualify as the series is generous with inaccuracy.
Best Shooting Games To Improve Your NS Marksmanship Skills
1. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
Platform: PS4, Xbox One, PC
Despite its steep learning curve, Rainbow Six Siege is considered one of the best shooting games because of regular content updates and slow-paced tactical gameplay. Each match pits two teams of five operators against each other in a playground of destroyable floors, walls and ceilings!
The charm of the game lies in how each operator has specific perks, ranging from seeing enemy heartbeats through walls to tearing down that same wall with a sledgehammer! As you strategise with teammates and cover blind spots, your marksman skills will be stretched. Matches will go down to the wire and any lapse in accuracy or concentration will result in death.
2. Hitman Sniper
Platform: Android, iOS
Today’s mobile game market is flooded with bland shooting games that’ll have you repeating the same objective over and over. Thankfully, Hitman Sniper stands out from the crowd by offering variety and polish, making each of the 150 missions fun and engaging.
While you could just snipe your primary target, where’s the fun in that? There are creative methods to eliminate your target, from making kills look like accidents to creating distractions by raising car alarms. Your efforts are rewarded with points you can use to customise your rifle, making it even deadlier with more penetrative power and explosive ammunition.
3. Day Of Infamy
Platforms: PC, Mac
Set during World War II, you’ll definitely struggle with Day Of Infamy’s ancient guns and lack of handholding. Such hardcore shooting games attempt to accurately recreate the horrors of war by going for complete immersion! This includes removing modern conveniences like target reticles and ammunition counters while intentionally allowing clunky movement and friendly fire.
You’ll also discover that bullets don’t land where they’re supposed to and that teamwork is essential or you’ll end up killing each other as you stumble through the battlefield. Not meant for the faint hearted, your marksman skills will be truly tested here! Learn to account for bullet drop and attempt to differentiate between friends and foes.
4. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG)
Platforms: PC, Mac, Android, iOS
Taking the gaming world by storm, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds continues to be popular among casual and hardcore gamers as one of the first shooting games to offer a refined Battle Royale experience. Tired of the campers who see you coming without ever exposing themselves? Why not try out the First-Person-Perspective (FPP) mode!
Without the ability to peek around corners or leverage on the wide Field-of-View that a third person perspective provides, FPP results in more aggressive player behaviour. Also, your marksman skills will be tested as you’re forced to focus on winning fights through gun play rather than turtling behind cover.

5. Sniper Elite 4
Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC
Sniper Elite 4 puts you in the shoes of an expert sniper, working to dismantle the Nazi regime. Shooting games like Sniper Elite 4 gloriously celebrate each kill with the in-game killcam! It follows the path of your bullet and provides a satisfying x-ray shot of the bullet shredding through your target.
Before you pull the trigger, you’ll have to take into account how long you’re holding your breath and the distance your bullet travels. If you think that’s easy, ramp up the difficulty with Authentic difficulty! The game throws more hurdles your way by removing the training wheels of aim assistance and fully implementing ballistic physics so wind and gravity effects are on full display.
6. Aim Hero
Looking for shooting games that focus solely on honing your NS marksman skills at the shooting range? Aim Hero strips away the bells and whistles of narratives and graphics to deliver a no-frills experience. Drills range from strafing targets that train the steadiness of your hand to reflex aim training that allows you to practise snapping your aim to a target.
Featuring aim mechanics from popular shooting games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and PUBG, definitely get this title if you’re seeking to improve your mechanical skills.
7. Battlefield 4
Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC
Did you know that popular multiplayer shooting games like Battlefield 4 feature Singapore weaponry? Electronic Arts DICE has gone to great lengths to recreate the iconic Singaporean SAR-21 rifle, granting it the title of most stable rifle in the game. With minimal recoil, you’ll be destroying mid-range targets and recreating those experiences at the shooting range with ease. Don’t believe us? Check out the video below for a demonstration of what the SAR 21 is capable of!

8. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
Platforms: PC, Mac
No shooting games list is complete without the most iconic first-person shooter of all time! Since taking over LAN cafes in 2000, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive remains one of the best shooting games today for its easy-to-pick-up-but-hard-to-master mechanics. Taking place in a 5v5 arena, players can arm themselves with iconic guns like the AK-47 and M4A1 Carbine rifle as they complete tasks like detonating a bomb or rescuing hostages!
While it might not be the SAR-21, the game’s AUG follows the same bullpup design and has a scope to boot! The video below shows the power of the AUG in a deathmatch setting.
Once you’re done mastering these shooting games, you’ll be lining up those targets and nailing those shots! However, in all seriousness, if you do need NS marksman tips for the shooting range, here are a few tips.
Zeroing Is Essential
Whether it’s about zeroing the scope or the laser aiming device, make sure your SAR-21 is zero-ed and tweaked for accuracy. Otherwise, you’ll have a terrible time landing any shots during the night shoot.
Hold Your Breath
When taking your shot, hold your breath! This prevents the scope from drifting from the tiny movements your body makes while breathing.
Lean Into Your Shot And Apply Shoulder Pressure
Lean into your shot when you’re squeezing the trigger! This allows your body to absorb the rifle’s recoil as you’re firing your weapon. By applying significant pressure on the rifle’s butt, you’ll reduce the chances of an inaccurate aim due to recoil.
While shooting games lack the same intensity and recoil that firing an actual rifle provides, they do impart values like bullet spray control and holding your breath when firing. With all this in mind and enough practice, getting the $200 for your actual live firing marksmanship test will be a cinch!
