What to wear to F1

I’ve never been to Formula 1 (F1), but it’s high on my bucket list – and after scrolling through way too many Facebook posts from the Singapore Grand Prix, I’ve become obsessed with what people wear to F1. Singapore isn’t exactly known for its chill weather, and if I’m going to sweat it out by the tracks, I might as well look good doing it.

So whether you’re planning to go this year or just want to be in the F1 mood, here’s a breakdown of the Singapore F1 dress code (spoiler: it’s not as strict as you think), plus celeb-inspired outfit ideas that anyone – yes, even us normies – can pull off.

Now you know what to wear to F1. So, what’s next?

But first, is there an official dress code for the Singapore F1?

The short answer is no – there isn’t an official dress code for those holding walkabout or grandstand tickets. You’re free to wear whatever feels comfortable, weather-appropriate, and stylish enough for a full day outdoors.

However, if you’re attending as a VIP or have hospitality suite access, a smart casual dress code applies. For men, this typically means a button-down shirt paired with tailored trousers and closed-toe shoes. For women, dresses, tailored pants, or dressy tops are perfect options. Absolutely no beachwear, no distressed denim, and no excessively casual items like FBT shorts.

What to wear to F1 Grand Prix 2025: 7 trackside outfit ideas

1. Simple and chic: Printed midi dress

Let’s start with a no-fail option: the one-piece dress. Kendall Jenner kept it cool and subtly sexy in a red and white checkered mini dress with a slightly plunging neckline, perfect for those with a fuller bust who want to add a bit of flair without going overboard. The fabric looks like breathable cotton or linen, which is ideal for a humid night out.

Style this yourself: Go for a gingham or printed cotton mini or midi dress with a square or V-neckline. Pair with black cat-eye sunglasses and strappy sandals. Keep your accessories minimal to let the dress shine.

2. Classic cool: Denim aesthetics

Tom Holland – arguably the best Spider-Man – showed up in an effortlessly cool denim button-down shirt, paired with loose, dark blue striped trousers. The combination was simple but sharp, giving strong “off-duty actor” vibes without trying too hard. What made this look even smarter was the styling: he added a baseball cap (ideal for shielding yourself from the sun and hiding a bad hair day), and kept the fit relaxed but structured.

Style it yourself: Opt for a light-wash or indigo chambray shirt and pair it with darker-toned, lightweight cotton pants or wide-leg trousers. Add a cap and sporty sneakers. If you’re attending a VIP suite, swap in leather sneakers.

3. Model off-duty: Beige overalls & tank top

Liverpool footballer Trent Alexander-Arnold nailed it with this understated, fashion-forward look. He wore beige overalls over a fitted white tank top, pairing relaxed tailoring with clean lines in a way that felt both casual and curated. The overall draped effortlessly and were roomy enough to allow airflow in the sticky Singapore heat. Trent finished the look with white sneakers, simple accessories, and confident, chill energy – proof that comfort and style can coexist, even at one of the world’s most high-profile sporting events.

Style it yourself: Look for neutral-toned overalls in linen, canvas, or breathable cotton. Underneath, go for a tank top in black, grey, or a blue colour if you want to make it pop. Complete the look with clean sneakers and sporty sunglasses. Ideal for both guys and girls who want to serve a casual streetwear look with a bit of flair.

4. Ready to party: Corset top & leather skirt

Leave it to DJ Peggy Gou to bring party energy to the pit lane. She wore a deep V-neck corset printed top tucked into high-waisted black leather skirt  and zeng-ed up the look with black knee-high boots. This outfit screamed edgy nightlife – perfect if you’re heading from the track straight to the afterparty.

Style it yourself: You don’t have to go full leather – try coated denim or faux leather pants for breathability. Pair with a statement sleeveless top and boots or platform sandals. Add bold jewellery, and you’re track-to-club ready.

5. Laid-back royalty: Polo tee & jeans

If you’re someone who prefers to keep it low-key but still look sharp, Prince Harry has your blueprint. He went with a tried-and-true combo: a classic dark blue polo shirt paired with slim-fit jeans. The dark blue polo hugged his frame just enough to give it structure without sacrificing comfort. The choice of a dark wash jean added a slightly dressier edge than faded denim would, making it the perfect middle ground between casual and put-together.

Style it yourself: Go for a fitted polo shirt in a classic colour like black, navy, or charcoal grey. Pair it with dark denim or tailored chinos, depending on your ticket type or where you’re heading after the race. For footwear, white leather sneakers, minimalist trainers, or casual loafers will all work. Top it off with a matte-finish watch if you want to elevate the look.

6. All black, all class: Casual jumpsuit

While she wasn’t at the Singapore Grand Prix, Camila Cabello made a sleek and understated appearance at another F1 event, turning heads in a timeless black jumpsuit. Her sleeveless jumpsuit featured an A-line silhouette and a subtly cinched waist, giving just the right amount of structure while keeping things comfortable for a full day trackside. Camila kept her styling clean and fuss-free: her hair was tied back in a low ponytail, showing off her natural features; she also accessorised with cat-eyed black sunglasses, letting the outfit speak for itself.

Style it yourself: A black sleeveless jumpsuit in cotton, jersey, or linen blend is a wardrobe staple for any F1 weekend. Look for a version with a belted waist or utility-inspired details like patch pockets or silver zips. Pair with low-heeled sandals, slick on some SPF, throw your hair in a ponytail, and finish with a pair of dark sunglasses for that effortlessly cool Camila energy.

7. Ultimate fan fit: F1 jerseys

While not a red carpet moment, families and friends often show up in coordinated team jerseys, and the vibe is genuinely heartwarming. Whether it’s a Ferrari red, Mercedes black and teal, or McLaren papaya orange, wearing your team’s gear is not only stylish – it’s personal. You instantly feel part of something bigger, and there’s a certain pride that comes with wearing the logo you cheer for lap after lap. And don’t worry – jerseys can still be fashionable.

Style it yourself, pair it with:

  • Denim shorts or cargo pants for a sporty-casual feel
  • Tennis skirts or bike shorts for a more feminine twist
  • Add layers like a light utility jacket or tie a flannel around your waist for extra edge

General tips on what to wear to F1

Dress for the weather

Singapore = hot and humid. Choose fabrics like cotton, linen, bamboo, or dri-fit blends. If you’re someone who sweats easily, stick with loose fits and lighter colours.

Wear the right footwear

You’ll be on your feet for hours, walking between stands, food stalls, and viewing zones. Running trainers or sneakers with cushioned soles are your best bet. If you’re in hospitality, stylish pumps or wedges work – just skip anything too high or unstable.

Pack for the rain

Sudden rain showers are common. Throw a foldable poncho or a lightweight waterproof jacket into your bag. A mini umbrella won’t hurt either.

Accessorise smartly

Bring sunglasses, a hat or cap, and a crossbody bag or belt bag so your hands are free. Don’t forget SPF and some of the best portable fans to keep you cool!

Now you know what to wear to F1. So, what’s next?

Now that you’ve got the lowdown on what to wear to F1, from weather-savvy outfit ideas to celeb-inspired fashion moments, you’re ready to take on race weekend in Singapore.
