What is the best time to eat Lo Hei?
Lo hei is best enjoyed anytime during the 15 days of Chinese New Year. Many families start with a yu sheng toss during reunion dinner on CNY eve as a way to welcome good fortune. Others prefer Day 1 lunch when the mood is festive, and everyone is gathered. The 7th day, known as Ren Ri (人日), or “everyone’s birthday,” is also popular as it symbolises collective luck – especially for office celebrations.
There’s no strict rule, and some do multiple lo hei sessions with different groups. Restaurants offer yu sheng from about a week before CNY until Chap Goh Mei (15th day), so there’s plenty of time to toss.
Tip: Order early, especially for yusheng delivery or takeaway, as popular sets sell out fast. Avoid tossing before the new year—it’s a CNY tradition, best saved for the festive period.
Where to buy yu sheng for a prosperous CNY 2026
From luxurious hotel platters to DIY yusheng kits, Singapore offers countless options on where to buy yu sheng for Chinese New Year 2026. Whether you opt for an extravagant abalone-topped creation or a simple homemade toss with friends, the important thing is sharing the joy (and mess!) of lo hei.
