For the sauce: 

  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds, toasted

For the chicken:

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil

How to prepare this sesame chicken recipe:

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. In another bowl, beat the egg.
  2. Add the chicken breasts to the cornstarch mixture and toss until fully coated. Then dip each piece of chicken into the egg mixture, making sure it’s fully coated.

  5. In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water until fully combined. Add the cornstarch mixture to the sauce mixture and whisk together.
  7. Pour the sauce into the wok and cook over medium heat for about 3 – 5 minutes, until the sauce thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
  8. Add the cooked chicken to the wok and toss until fully coated with the sauce. Sprinkle the toasted sesame seeds on top and serve hot with steamed rice for a hearty meal.
